What is Kentuckiana?

I took a wrong turn on Google and ended up on the Wikipedia page for Louisville KY which led me to click over to learn more about Kentuckiana. I always thought Kentuckiana was a vague term that the locals used and never realized it had a true definition.

The True Definition of Kentuckiana

The Louisville metropolitan area or Kentuckiana is the 45th largest[b] metropolitan statistical area (MSA) in the United States. The principal city is Louisville, Kentucky.

The Louisville–Jefferson County, Kentucky–Indiana, metropolitan statistical area (MSA) is made up of seven counties in Kentucky (Bullitt, Henry, Jefferson, Meade, Oldham, Shelby, and Trimble) and five counties in Southern Indiana (Clark, Floyd, Harrison, Scott, and Washington). Did you know that the Louisville Metro area includes all of Jefferson County, Kentucky?!

Kentuckiana Portrait and Event Photographer

Learning this led me to think about how I serve the people of Kentuckiana. This is my home – where I live and work, and where the majority of my clients live and work. I had previously used Google to map out my service area so I could put this on my custom artwork page. The two circles in the figure below represent a 20-30 mile radius from Louisville International Airport (SDF). The map represents the primary area I serve and the majority of my sessions take place in this Kentuckiana region. I am curious to know where YOU – the readers of this blog – live and work. Are you inside this service area, do you live close by, or somewhere much farther away? Please let me know in the comments below!

If you are outside this service area, please know that I am available for travel. We can discuss your desired location during your complimentary consultation. There are so many great cities within driving distance of Louisville. For example, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, and Nashville are all just a short drive away. In fact, I have had clients travel from 12 different states to work here with me!

Louisville is centrally located, and this is just one of the reasons I love it here! I have worked outside this region for specific photography projects in Kentucky and Indiana, but outside the definition of “Kentuckiana”.
